Impaired Ankle Function Seen in Diabetics: Study

People with long-standing diabetes are prone to impaired ankle function, even in the absence of diabetes-related nerve damage, or "peripheral neuropathy," new research indicates. Diabetic peripheral neuropathy—a progressive deterioration of nerve function in the extremities linked to diabetes—can trigger chronic pain, numbness, weakness, and tingling sensations in the feet.

Vitamin C Linked to Lower Risk for Type 2 Diabetes

Higher plasma vitamin C level and, to a lesser degree, fruit and vegetable intake, are associated with a decreased risk for type 2 diabetes by 62 percent, according to the results of a population-based, prospective cohort study reported in the July 28 issue of the Archives of Internal Medicine.

Simple: A Daily 45 Minute Walk Limits the Impact of Diabetes

According to scientists in the UK, by simply walking for an extra 45 minutes a day, people with diabetes can limit the impact of the disease. The scientists from Newcastle University conducted a study involving people with late-onset, or type 2 diabetes and found that walking improved their bodies' ability to store sugar and burn fat, which after a few weeks reduced the effects of diabetes.
